New York City: Part Two

While in New York, we stayed outside of the city with Nathan's relatives. As we only spent about a day and a half in NYC, we had to plan out abs decide exactly where we wanted to visit. The list kept getting longer and longer!

We agreed to see Rockefeller Centre, Ground Zero, and Central Park (wish we could have dedicated a few days just to visiting the park!), Nathan wanted to see a few Ghostbusters sites, and I was all about the food.
Normally when I go somewhere new, the most important thing is that I buy something to remember the trip. They have to be something I will use - usually clothing, shoes, jewelry, or a bag (a red mini skirt from Switzerland, a white sweater from Key West, leather flats from Edmonton). This trip was different (although I did buy a bracelet, tee, and sweater from J. Crew); it was all about the food. I wanted try every bakery and burger joint NYC had to offer.

While working with Nathan's aunt and uncle to make an agenda for our big day in the city, I was told to limit the number of bakeries on the list. Not everyone shared my goals for the day!

^ Dominique Ansel Bakery is home to the cronut (crescent donut). When I heard about this place, I knew we had to go. Unfortunately, we didn't make it in time to try a cronut (they suggest lining up at 7am), but still so worth it. The bakery is also in a super cute part of town.

^ Someone from my office suggested the DKA (apparently it is better than the cronut), so Nathan and I each got one. They were delicious! I wanted to buy a dozen and bring them home... but was certain I would eat them up long before we even stopped for lunch.
^ The Shake Shack was incredible. I could eat those burgers and fries every day! We also had a peanut butter shake and some yummy lemonade and limeade. Bring these to Canada, please!!
^ The boys ate some Spongebob cookies from a bakery outside of the city. Jacob got black icing all over his face - so cute!
^ Uncle Jason made some delicious breakfast for us all one morning. Mmmm mm!
^ I can't remember the name of this place, but we had some truly delicious burgers and fries at a local restaurant near our host's home. Everything was made with quality ingredients - yum!
^ We didn't plan to go to Magnolia Bakery, but stumbled into it while on our way to dinner in the city. I bought a lemon bar (smooshed before I was able to take a picture, but I assure you, it was delicious!).
^ The kids got some beautiful cupcakes at Magnolia. They were gobbled up pretty quickly!
^ For dinner our last night there, we went to The Iron Tomato for a deli style meal. I had a giant chicken parmesan sandwich and (as you can see above), Jared had a huge slice of pizza.

Although we didn't visit every restaurant and bakery I had hoped to, we ended up going to a few I hadn't even heard of. I got to try some incredible food! We missed out on Doughnut Plant and Carlo's Bakery (in Hoboken, New Jersey), but I think that just means we'll have to make another trip down to visit soon. New York has so much to offer!

  1. We went to the Shake Shack when we were in NYC last year too. Delicious! We also had to visit Katz' Deli, like from "When Harry Met Sally"

    1. I am obsessed with the Shake Shack! Honestly wish I could go there every day.

We will need to go to Katz' next time. Good idea! ! We're both big fans of the movie :)
